WASHINGTON: Over 1,000 officials in the USAID have inked an open letter asking the Biden administration to call for an urgent cease-fire in the war between Hamas and Israel, Reuters reported on Friday.

The letter is newest sign of awkwardness within the US government over Biden’s stanch support for Israel over war on Gaza. Gaza’s health ministry said that Israeli airstrikes have killed more than 11,000 Palestinian people, including more than 4,500 children in Gaza.

The letter stated, “We are very alarmed and dismayed at the many violations of global law; laws which aim to protect civilian population, health and media personnel, hospitals, schools, and places of worship.” “We believe that further disastrous loss of human life can only be averted if Washington calls for an immediate truce in the Gaza Strip.”

As per media reports, more than 1,029 officials of the USAID signed the letter. The recent development comes amid huge protests in the US and worldwide calling for a truce. Earlier, a top official of the US State Department had tendered resignation over Biden’s policy towards middle east. The officials said that he had opposed continued lethal help to Israel.

Similarly, over 500 people who did work on Biden’s 2020 election drive on Thursday published a letter, calling for the US President to support an urgent ceasefire. Reuters cited a source as saying that there has been “deep frustration” among the US government officials in the aftermath of Oct. 7 and how the Biden’s administration has given a “carte-blanche” to Israel, permitting it carryout a military offensive in the Gaza Strip. Sources told the Reuters that they were also aware of four cables that have been drafted for the US State Department’s internal “dissent channel,” which permits diplomats to raise concerns regarding policy anonymously with Antony Blinken. However, the State Department rejects the impression.
