MOSCOW:  The Kremlin on Wednesday expressed worry over the recent escalation in the Middle East, calling on “all parties” to show “restraint.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that this situation is developing by the most worrying scenario. The spokesperson added that they called on all sides towards restraint.  Dmitry Peskov further said that they condemned any acts that could lead to the death of the civilians.

Theran said the strike on Tuesday – which took place as Israel stated it was mounting a ground offensive against Iran-backed Hezbollah group in Lebanon – was in reply to the killings of Hezbollah and Hamas leaders.

It was the second time Tehran has directly targeted Israel, after a missile and drone attack in April in retaliation for a deadly Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria.

After Tuesday’s Iran said that its missile attack on Israel was over barring further provocation, while Israel and the US promised to retaliate against Tehran as fears of a wider war intensified, Reuters reported.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called Iran’s massive missile attack on Israel “a big mistake” and promised to make Tehran “pay for it.”

AFP reported that Netanyahu said that Tehran made a major mistake tonight and will pay for it.  Netanyahu warned “Whoever attacks us, we attack them.”

Following Washington said it was discussing a joint response with Israel, Iran’s chief of staff warned that Iran would hit Israeli infrastructure if its country is attacked.

After the recent development, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) scheduled a meeting regarding the regional situation for Wednesday, and the European Union (EU) called for an immediate truce.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said in a statement via social media “Our action is ended unless the Israeli government decides to invite further retaliation. In that situation, our reply will be stronger and more powerful,”.

The Israeli army said Iran had fired over 180 missiles towards Israeli territory on Tuesday after deadly Israeli raids against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
