Moscow Lauds Beijing’s Willingness to “Play Constructive Role” in Ending Ukraine War

MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday welcomed Beijing’s willingness to play a “constructive” role in ending the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, adding Sino-Russian ties were at the “highest point” in history.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping heads to Moscow on Monday hoping to deliver a major breakthrough on the Ukraine war as China seeks to position itself as a peacemaker in the world. Russian President said that the quality of relations between Beijing and Moscow and is “higher than the political and military unions of the Cold War era. Putin expressed these remarks in an article written for a Chinese media outlet and published by the Kremlin on the eve of Chinese President Xi’s trip.

Russian President called President Xi Jinping his “good old friend” and said Moscow had high hopes for his trip, Xi’s first to Russia since President Putin launched his invasion of Ukraine in 2022. China last month published a paper asking for dialogue and a political settlement in Ukraine.
