ISLAMABAD: The MQM-Pakistan has approached the PML-N, seeking its share in the federal government to the fullest extent possible.
According to reports, the MQM-Pakistan has requested the Sindh governorship and five ministries at the Centre from the PML-N. Moreover, the MQM-Pakistan leadership stressed the need for amendments to the local government system and the constitution.
These terms were discussed during negotiations between the two parties regarding government formation at the federal level. The meeting took place at the ministers’ enclave in Islamabad.
Both parties explored various options for collaboration within the federation. The MQM-P also urged the PML-N to allocate its share in the central government as much as possible.
Among the demands made, the MQM-Pakistan has emphasized securing the Sindh governorship and advocated for reforms in the local government system and constitutional amendments.
Furthermore, MQM-Pakistan leaders are continuing their discussions after meeting with the PML-N. The party said that securing a significant position in the federal cabinet is its prerogative as a party that won 17 seats in the National Assembly.
The party maintains that if collaboration is to occur, larger parties must be willing to share power. Additionally, the MQM-Pakistan has requested five federal ministries from the PML-N and provided a list of priority ministries.
Moreover, it has been reported that the MQM-Pakistan has requested the ministries of port and shipping, IT, communication, labour and manpower, and overseas Pakistanis in the federal government.
MQM-Pakistan Communique:
Following the meeting, the MQM-Pakistan issued a statement stating that the second round of talks between the two parties took place in Islamabad on Wednesday afternoon.
Representatives from the MQM-Pakistan included Sindh Governor Kamran Tesori, Senior Deputy Convener Mustafa Kamal, and Dr. Farooq Sattar, while the PML-N delegation comprised Ishaq Dar, Ayaz Sadiq, Azam Nazeer Tarar, and Muhammad Ahmed Khan.
The statement affirmed that both parties agreed to continue the reconciliation and cooperation process for political, democratic, and economic stability in the country. It emphasized that government formation would proceed based on ensuring equitable distribution of resources and power.
Additionally, the communiqué highlighted the commitment to safeguarding the rights of urban areas in Sindh, particularly in restoring Karachi’s economic significance. Further meetings between the delegations are anticipated to advance the government formation process from both sides.
