MUMBAI, India: Baba Siddique, a senior politician and former minister from Maharashtra, was shot dead in Mumbai, weeks before crucial state elections.

The 66-year-old was gunned down outside his son’s office, with multiple shots fired at his chest. The police are investigating potential involvement of a notorious crime gang linked to Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently in jail for running a criminal network involved in numerous killings.

Two suspects have been arrested, while the police are hunting for another. Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister, Ajit Pawar, condemned the attack, calling it a “cowardly” act and promising thorough investigations. The killing comes after Siddique’s security was recently upgraded following death threats. He was a prominent figure, known for his connections with Bollywood celebrities and hosting lavish events.
