ISLAMABAD: Mushaal Hussein Malik, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) for Human Rights and Women Empowerment, paid homage to Mohammad Yasin Malik, a prominent figure in the Kashmir freedom struggle, marking the completion of five years of his unjust imprisonment in Indian jails.
Yasin Malik, a symbol of inspiration for the Kashmiri people in their fight against Indian oppression, was forcefully detained by Indian authorities from his residence on this day in 2019 and incarcerated in Jammu Jail under the Public Safety Act before being transferred to Delhi’s notorious Tihar Jail in May of the same year.
Mushaal denounced the Indian government’s tactics of fabricating terrorism charges to suppress Yasin Malik’s voice, leading to his sentencing to life imprisonment, with further threats of capital punishment, in a clear display of political vendetta by the Narendra Modi regime.
Despite enduring deteriorating health and life-threatening conditions in solitary confinement, Yasin Malik remained steadfast in his principles, prompting Mushaal to call upon UN bodies and human rights organizations to advocate for his release and that of other prisoners of conscience in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
She also highlighted the tragic Kunan-Poshpora incident of February 23, 1991, as a shameful episode in India’s history, emphasizing the ongoing struggle for justice for the victims of sexual violence perpetrated by Indian forces in Kashmir.
Mushaal reiterated the need for international scrutiny and accountability to address such atrocities and uphold the rights of Kashmiri women in the face of systemic oppression.
