NEW DELHI: A Muslim man in Rajasthan’s Alwar district of India was lynched over suspicions of illegal wood chopping in a forested area.

The victim, identified as 27-year-old Wasim, and his companions were traveling in a pickup jeep when they were ambushed by a mob near Narol village, reported Indian media.

Armed with sharp-edged weapons, sticks, and iron rods, the mob inflicted severe injuries on Wasim and his friends. Wasim was rushed to Kotputli Government Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The reports say that the attackers were included forest officials. An initial report was filed at Harosa police station, leading to the detention of 10 individuals, including four forest officials, for investigation.

Wasim’s father, Tayyab Khan, lodged the FIR (First Information Report) with the police. In the statement to police, Khan explained that his son had legally purchased the wood from a local dealer during the day and was transporting it in the pickup jeep to Rampur for loading at night. Villagers obstructed their path using a JCB excavator, forcing the youth to exit their vehicle. Another jeep from the Forest Department arrived on the scene, further escalating the situation.

Following the incident, police seized the forest officials’ vehicle.
