ROME Secretary General of the Muslim World League and Chairman of the Organisation of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa has met with the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis at the Vatican to discuss opportunities for collaboration and issues of mutual interest.
During his visit to Italy, Al-Issa received an Honourary Postdoctoral Fellowship in Law from the historically and academically prestigious University of Bologna, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.
The award ceremony was attended by university leaders, academics, and religious dignitaries, all of whom recognised his unwavering commitment to advancing the goals of the United Nations Charter for global peace.
His efforts to ease cultural tensions and promote interfaith dialogue were particularly highlighted.
During the visit, Al-Issa also inaugurated the Islamic Studies and Arabic Language Award at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan.
Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the university president, faculty members, students, and notable Italian Islamic leaders attended the event.
This award aims to deepen understanding of Islamic perspectives on scientific and cultural issues while promoting the richness and elegance of the Arabic language.
