ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s anti-graft watchdog has initiated a fresh inquiry against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and former first lady Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has issued call-up notices to Imran Khan, the founding chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and his wife and a letter has been sent to the Deputy Superintendent of Adiala Jail, requesting their presence for investigation.
Previously, on January 31, an Accountability Court (AC) sentenced Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to 14 years in prison each in the Toshakhana case. They were also barred from holding public office for 10 years and fined Rs787 million.
Earlier, Imran Khan and his foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi were handed 10-year prison sentences under the Official Secrets Act in connection with the cipher case. Additionally, they received seven years in jail each for a case concerning their marriage during the latter’s Iddat period.
However, on April 1, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended the 14-year jail sentence of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana case.
