Nadine Dorries Quits: MP Attacks PM Sunak as She Resigns Commons

LONDON: Nadine Dorries has tendered her resignation from the House of Commons more than 60-day after promising to go “with immediate effect”, BBC reported on Saturday. She launched a blazing attack on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in her resignation, telling him “History will not judge you kindly”.  Earlier, she announced her intention to resign on 9th June.

She alleged Sunak of abandoning “the central principles of Conservatism” and said the nation was now run by a “zombie Legislature”. She had come under high pressure to act on her pledge to quit as she had not spoken in the Parliament since June 2022. She had submitted her resignation statement to the prime minister and also published the text on Online. The Treasury Department also confirmed it had been notified of her intention to officially step down.

It was widely thought that the MP would be made a peer by Boris Johnson in his resignation honors list. In a statement, she accused Sunak of “demeaning his office by opening the gates to whip up a public fury” against her.
