BEIJING: Chinese Scholar Cheng Xizhong has strongly criticized Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who came into power through sensationalism and Hindutva expansionist designs, for targeting minority religions and ethnic groups in the country.

Cheng highlighted that during Modi’s nearly 10 years in power, minority religious believers, including Muslims, Kashmiris, Sikhs, and ethnic groups in northeastern India, have faced ruthless suppression, resulting in deaths and human rights violations.

Cheng noted that due to Modi’s Hindu extremist policies, Sikhs have expressed aspirations for establishing “Khalistan,” with Sikh separatist forces gaining support abroad. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused the Indian government of involvement in the assassination of Sikh independence leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, leading to tensions between the two countries.

Cheng emphasized that many Sikhs living abroad support the idea of an independent Sikh country in India. He pointed out that while Modi received support from the US, the recent accusations from Canada regarding the Sikh leader’s murder serve as a wake-up call.

Narendra Modi’s Policies Threatens India’s Stability

Cheng argued that India, aspiring to become one of the world’s major economies, should be prepared for greater pressure from the West, similar to what China faces. He concluded that Modi’s promotion of Hindu extremism not only threatens India’s stability but also global peace and security.
