Nation Remembers 2005 Earthquake Victims

Islamabad—— The nation is observing 17th anniversary of the devastating earthquake that jolted the entire country on 8th October in 2005, taking more than 73, 000 lives and leaving around 70 thousand injured.

The main ceremony is being held in Mirpur, AJK, the most affected area in the earthquake. This day is marked every year as National Disaster Awareness Day to pay tribute and respect to those who lost their lives to the most killer earthquake in the history of Pakistan.

In accordance with this day, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on his twitter handle, has called this day one of the darkest day in the country’s history and said that every year this day brings heart-wrenching memories. The Prime Minister also prayed for the people who lost their lives in the earthquake.

Fawad Chaudhry: Senior member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Fawad Chaudhry has said that after the 2005 earthquake, the whole world came forward to help Pakistan and in floods 2010, the same tremendous response was witnessed again. However, after the current havoc caused by floods, it seems Pakistan is standing alone in the world and no one has helped us like in the past. He said that this government is solely responsible for this situation because the entire world considers them corrupt and dishonest, therefore no one trusts them with aid money.
