LARKANA: A seven-day National Polio Campaign began in Larkana division on Monday and will continue till September 15, covering various cities, towns, and villages of Larkana, Kamber-Shahdadkot, Shikarpure, Jacobabad, and Kandhkot-Kashmore, local media reported.

The campaign teams are set to visit remote and flood-affected areas across these five districts to administer the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) to 1,179,995 children under the age of five. The District Health Departments of Larkana, Kamber-Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, and Kandhkot-Kashmore have sent over 3,430 mobile and fixed teams to ensure that all children in this age group receive the vaccine.

Health Department officials have asked the residents to cooperate with the polio vaccination teams visiting their homes.  Commissioner of Larkana Division, Ghulam Mustafa Phull, urged parents to ensure their children receive the vaccine before the campaign concludes on September 15, 2024, to prevent lifelong disability.

He also called on all citizens of the division to support the polio teams in their efforts to eradicate the disease. The Commissioner emphasized the importance of involvement from parents, religious leaders, social workers, civil society members, teachers, and health workers in making the anti-polio campaign a success, thus protecting future generations from polio.
