National Youth Forum Kicks Off in Pakistan to Promote Youth Leadership

ISLAMABAD: A five-day National Youth Forum organized by the Pakistan Girl Guides Association National Headquarters kicked off in the federal capital, Islamabad, on Tuesday.

The forum titled “Empowering Youth for Leadership and Governance” is featuring over 50 Young Leaders from across the country and will be continued till 28th June.

The opening ceremony, held today, 2024, featured Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq, Chairperson of the National Commission on Rights of the Child, as the Chief Guest. Maria Maud Sabri, National Commissioner of the Pakistan Girl Guides Association, warmly welcomed the Chief Guest and other dignitaries.

She provided an overview of Guiding in Pakistan, highlighting its mission to foster leadership development from the moment girls join. Each group of 6-8 girls elects its leader, promoting democratic principles and regular leadership rotation to ensure equal opportunities. Activities are chosen by the girls themselves, aiming to build skills and confidence to initiate change.

Guiding encourages girls to address social issues and take proactive steps, aiming to empower them as agents of positive transformation.

Acknowledging the transition of girls into young women, the Youth Forum was established to groom future leaders of the Association. It aims to empower capable young women to assume leadership roles within their local chapters, fostering their growth into responsible leaders.

Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq commended the Pakistan Girl Guides Association for its initiatives in empowering young girls. She praised the program for equipping girls with the skills and values needed to become confident and responsible citizens.

Emphasizing the importance of youth in national development, she highlighted the relevance of Guiding principles in today’s dynamic world. She encouraged the participants to discover their potential and refine their leadership abilities during the forum.

Senator Ayesha also discussed the work of the National Commission on the Rights of the Child, urging young leaders to advocate for child rights in their communities.
