LAHORE: Nawaz Sharif, the leader of PML-N, is set to arrive in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Mansehra district today, Monday, to address a public gathering in the NA-15 constituency, where he is a contestant in the upcoming elections scheduled for February 8.
The rally is organized by Capt (retd) Mohammad Safdar, husband of party’s senior vice president and chief organizer, Maryam Nawaz.
Former KP MPA Sardar Muhammad Yousaf Zaman, another party leader, is also involved in the organization of the event. During the gathering, Nawaz will elucidate his vision for the country’s development and outline plans for providing relief to those affected by inflation. Last month, the nomination papers of Nawaz were approved by the NA-15 Mansehra returning officer, Hajra Sami, who dismissed objections raised by PTI’s Azam Swati.
During the examination process, opposing candidates, legal representatives, and Barrister Jahangir Khan Jadoon presented arguments and evidence supporting the PML-N supremo. Swati contended that the returning officer lacked the authority to declare Nawaz eligible for the upcoming elections, citing his alleged dishonesty under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution regarding corruption.
The PTI leader asserted that the PML-N chief had been permanently disqualified by a five-member apex court bench. Emphasizing that no forum could deviate from the apex court’s decision, he argued against Nawaz’s eligibility. After a comprehensive assessment, the returning officer dismissed the objections, thereby permitting Nawaz to participate in the election for NA-15 Mansehra.
