ISLAMABAD: President of Pakistan Muslim League-N Nawaz Sharif on Monday extended felicitations to Narendra Modi on becoming Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive time.
He said his success in recent elections shows the confidence of the people in him. “Let us replace hate with hope and seize the opportunity to shape the destiny of the two billion people of South Asia,” he added.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also facilitated arch-rival India’s Narendra Modi on being sworn in as prime minister for a third term. In a statement via social media, Shehbaz Sharif wrote, “Felicitations to Narendra Modi on taking oath as the Prime Minister of India,”.
Earlier, Narendra Modi was sworn in as Indian Prime Minister on Sunday for a third term after the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won the general election with 293 seats – a much lower margin than earlier predicted, contrary to the 234 seats won by the opposition parties.
Indian President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath from Narendra Modi at a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the president’s palace in New Delhi. Thousands of dignitaries, including industrialists and Bollywood stars attended the oath-taking ceremony.
Modi, who started as a publicist of the Hindu-nationalist Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological parent of his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is only the second person after Jawaharlal Nehru to serve a third straight term as prime minister.
