ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), seeking protective bail in Avenefield and Al-Azizia steel mills graft cases.

The petition said that the politician was ready to surrender before the court to face cases registered against him. It pleaded the high court to grant protective bail for his appearance before it.

The PML-N leader would arrive in Islamabad via a special flight on October 21, it said. The former premier also sought a court’s order to restore his petitions, which were earlier disposed of.

The three-time former prime minister was pronounced a proclaimed offender by IHC in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia cases over non-compliance after he went to London for medical treatment with the court’s approval in November 2019.

Nawaz’s conviction in Al-Azizia reference was suspended in 2019 by the Lahore High Court (LHC) on medical grounds and he was allowed to fly to London to seek treatment.

Last week, Nawaz Sharif arrived Saudi Arabia where he performed Umrah along with family members and other party leaders.

The former PM would leave for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, this week and later will board a chartered flight to reach Pakistan on October 21.

His party has organized public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan on Oct 21 where he would reveal his future policy ahead of general elections in the country.
