LAHORE: PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif on Saturday emphasized the significance of Pakistan-US relations during the visit of United States Ambassador Donald Blome to his Jati Umra residence.

Alongside PML-N Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz, both parties engaged in discussions regarding sustainable bilateral ties and cooperation across various mutually beneficial subjects.

They recognized the crucial need for a sustained and fortified partnership, emphasizing the imperative to bolster cooperation and generate tangible, productive outcomes that fortify the foundation of robust Pakistan-US relations.

A wide array of topics spanning trade, economy, climate change, security, and regional stability and development were deliberated upon during the meeting between Nawaz and Blome.

During the event, the three-time prime minister reminisced about his past engagements with various US leaders, highlighting the mutual acknowledgment of Pakistan and the United States as distinct, independent, and sovereign nations.

Nawaz offered insights and assessments on Pakistan’s current economic and political landscape, focusing on his party’s groundwork for the upcoming general elections slated for February 8.

Confident in the people’s trust, Nawaz expressed his belief that the PML-N could steer the nation out of its current challenges.

Blome, on his part, shared US priorities and appreciated the open and candid discussion on various issues during the meeting.

This high-profile visit by a prominent Western diplomat follows closely after a meeting where the United Kingdom High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriot, expressed concerns about the declining trend in Britain’s Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) for Pakistan.

He additionally implored the British Government to take an active and impactful stance in securing an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. He highlighted the tragic toll of Israel’s indiscriminate ground and air assaults on homes, schools, and hospitals, emphasizing the thousands of Palestinians, including women, children, and the elderly, who have lost their lives.
