ISLAMABAD: The expected meeting between Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has been postponed, with the new schedule relocating the meeting to Islamabad next week.
Initially planned for Sunday in Lahore, the Nawaz-Shujaat post-election meeting has been rescheduled due to undisclosed reasons, confirmed PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shafay Hussain. Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain is expected to depart for Islamabad on Monday in preparation for the upcoming meeting.
The meeting between Nawaz Sharif and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain holds significance in the context of forming both federal and Punjab governments, aiming to develop a consensus between the PML-N and PML-Q.
With three National Assembly seats and 10 Punjab Assembly seats, the PML-Q’s role is crucial in the formation of governments at both the federal and provincial levels.
Nawaz-Zardari Meeting Postponed
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the PML-N and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-P) agreed to prolong discussions regarding the formation of the central government.
During the meeting between the MQM-P delegation, led by Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori and convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and the PML-N delegation, both parties concurred on sustaining the consultation process and involving other parties in the formation of the federal government.
Additionally, the meeting expected between PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, which was initially scheduled for February 10, has also been postponed, local media reported.
