KARACHI: The 24th death anniversary of iconic pop singer Nazia Hassan is being observed on Tuesday.
Legend pop singer Nazia Hassan’s career in the music industry started at the age of 10 with the hit song “Aap Jaisa Koi,” which propelled her to global fame.
Born on April 3, 1965, Nazia Hassan gained immense popularity through the widely popular Pakistan Television show Sung Sung, becoming a beloved figure in many homes during the late 80s.
Her sudden death on August 13, a day before Pakistan’s Independence Day, left the nation in sorrow and grief.
Nazia Hassan received several national and international awards, including Pakistan’s highest civil award, the Pride of Performance.
Nazia made her singing debut in 1980, with the song “Aap Jaisa Koi.” Her first album, Disco Deewane, released in 1981, achieved unlimited success, becoming e the best-selling Asian pop album of its time, reaching listeners in 14 countries.
The iconic “Disco Deewane” emerged as a generational anthem and was so groundbreaking that it even inspired a segment in Karan Johar’s 2012 blockbuster film, Student of The Year.
At the age of 15, Nazia Hassan made history by becoming the first Pakistani singer to receive an Indian Filmfare award in 1980.
Nazia Hassan tragically passed away at the young age of 35 in London on August 13, 2000, after a battle with lung cancer, leaving behind a legacy that continues to captivate generations.
