ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Sunday urged the relevant departments to ensure preemptive steps to manage land sliding, urban, and flash flooding risks that might occur due to heavy rains.

The NDMA in its Monsoon update said that the Meteorological Department (MET) has forecasted heavy to very heavy rain during the next 48 to 72 hours.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), the risk of flash flooding, landslides, and seasonal flooding would continue.

However, the thunderstorm was predicted in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Makran, and Dera Bugti areas.

Similarly, there was also the flash flooding risk in Loralai, Naseerabad, Sibi, Kalat, and Makran whereas there was a possibility of rapid flow in rivers and urban flooding in low-lying parts.

NDMA Urges for Safety Measures

The NDMA advisory said that in order to deal with the possible dangers, the public should be notified in advance, and the safety moves should be publicized.

Moreover, a systematic monitoring of traffic towards sensitive parts should be ensured and the machinery should be readied to deal with any kind of emergency.
