NDMA Predicts Three Heatwaves to Hit Pakistan in Coming Days

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has predicted that Pakistan may witness three heatwaves in a number of cities during the next 20 to 25 days.

According to the NDMA, the risk of the first heatwave is expected to fall in Umarkot, Tharparkar, Tando Allahyar, Matiari and Sanghar in Sindh, and Bahawalpur and Rahimyar Khan in Southern Punjab.

The National Disaster Management Authority further stated that the first spell of heatwave may last for two to three days from May 15th onward till the 30th of the month, as the temperature in the mentioned cities might reach above 40 °C with the heat felt could go up further.

As per details from the NDMA, the second heatwave is expected to last for four to five days in early June wherein the mercury might rise up to 45 °Celsius.

The third heatwave is expected during the middle of June, which might hit Tharparkar, Umarkot, Sanghar, Badin and Khairpur in Sindh Province, it added.

PDMA over Heatwave

Meanwhile, a few days before. Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) also warned of an increase in temperature resulting in a heatwave in different parts of the province.

As per the PDMA, the temperature is expected to increase by three to five °C in May. The citizens are advised to take precautionary measures and avoid unnecessary movement during the daytime.
