ISLAMABAD: Around 40,000 Syrians who had fled homes affected by the deadly 6 February quake have returned from Turkiye to rebel-controlled northwestern Syria in the 2 weeks since Turkiye eased restrictions on their movements, a Syrian rebel and a Turkish official said.
The immigration was recorded at 4 border crossings held by Syrian armed groups opposed to President Bashar Assad.
Syrians return through 4 border crossings
As of Monday, about 13,500 had crossed through Bab Al-Hawa, around 10,000 through Jarabulus crossing, and nearly 7,000 each through the Tal Abiad and Bab Al-Salam crossings.
Turkiye had put restrictions in place in April 2022, just before the Eid al Fitr holidays.
