RIYADH: NEOM, the ambitious mega-city project in Saudi Arabia, has announced its commitment to preserving 95% of its total area as part of the country’s environmental conservation and sustainability efforts.

The pledge was made during the second Tabuk Forum organized by NEOM, where officials showcased the project’s ongoing initiatives across various sectors.

In line with its commitment, NEOM will establish a dedicated facility in Al-Asilah to preserve and protect endangered species such as the Arabian oryx, the Arabian sand gazelle, the mountain gazelle, and the ibex.

The reserve will house one of the world’s largest wildlife restoration programs and provide a platform for visitors to learn about NEOM’s initiatives in vegetation and wildlife development and rehabilitation.

NEOM’s Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

NEOM’s dedication to environmental sustainability goes hand in hand with its groundbreaking project, The Line, which is part of a 100% sustainable transport system. The Line, designed as a zero-car environment, will contribute to conserving 95% of NEOM’s land while offering a unique concept of zero-gravity urbanism.

The city will feature vertically layered functions, allowing seamless movement in three directions—up, down, and across—providing convenient access to offices, schools, parks, and residential facilities. The Line’s modular design ensures that all amenities are within a five-minute walk, promoting efficient and sustainable living.

NEOM’s commitment to sustainable agriculture is exemplified by its hydroponics gardens, which utilize innovative design techniques to grow fruits, vegetables, and flowers in half the time of traditional agriculture methods while minimizing water usage.

Apart from its environmental initiatives, NEOM continues to develop other megaprojects, including Trojena, a year-round winter sports complex designed by architect Zaha Hadid, and the first outdoor ski resort in the Gulf Cooperation Council region. Furthermore, Sindalah Island, a luxury tourist destination, is also in the works, further diversifying NEOM’s offerings.

NEOM’s dedication to preserving its natural environment and promoting sustainable practices marks a significant step forward in Saudi Arabia’s efforts to create a model city that balances development with environmental stewardship.
