ISLAMABAD: Following the announcement of the Federal Budget 2023-24, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has granted approval for a tariff increase of Rs1.61 per unit.

The decision comes as the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested a tariff hike of Rs2.1 per unit, citing monthly fuel adjustments as the primary reason behind the increase.

Impact of Increase in Power Tariff

The approved tariff adjustment will inevitably impose an additional financial burden on consumers who are already grappling with precarious financial situations. The increased costs will be reflected in the electricity bills to be issued for June.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, the government has given its nod to an increase in the subsidy for K-Electric. The subsidy has been raised from Rs193 billion to Rs315 billion, aligning with the company’s earlier request.
