ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has okayed an increase of Rs5.40 per unit in power tariffs, citing quarterly fuel adjustments.

The move came after NEPRA deliberated on the request by Discos to collect an additional Rs144.69 billion as part of the quarterly adjustment.

The rise in the Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) is to be reflected in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2022-23.

NEPRA Attributes Tariff Hike to Currency Devaluation

However, this escalation won’t impact the lifeline consumers of K-Electric, according to an official statement.  A detailed verdict will be released later; read the notification.

While the caretaker federal government will have the final say on the tariff increase, NEPRA has attributed the tariff hike to the depreciation of the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar.

The foreign currency reached an unprecedented high of Rs299.01 against the rupee, strengthening by 0.63%.

The regulatory body would release its detailed verdict later, while the final decision about the increase in power tariff would be taken by the caretaker federal government.
