ISLAMABAD: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) on Friday asserted that New Delhi’s obstinacy was the largest obstacle to settling the Kashmir dispute and establishing peace in the region.

In a statement released in Srinagar, the APHC spokesman expressed grave concern over the ongoing human rights abuses committed by Indian troops in India illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and urged the international community to pay attention to the situation there, according to Kashmir Media Service (KMS).

“India cannot use the arrest of innocent people and other repressive measures in IIOJK to suppress the Kashmiris’ struggle for the protection of their inalienable right to self-determination,” he declared.

Kashmir a political issue

According to the spokesman, the UN has acknowledged Jammu and Kashmir as a political issue that can be handled by its resolutions.

He noted that tripartite negotiations between India, Pakistan, and the real Kashmiri leadership would make resolving the long-standing Kashmir problem easier.

Additionally, he urged the international community to play a decisive role in determining the conflict consistent with Kashmiris’ aspirations.
