WASHINGTON: Covid-19’s origin remains cloudy. Three years following the start of the epidemic, it’s still uncertain whether the deadly virus spread to humans from an animal or leaked from a laboratory.

This much is known: However, when it comes to Covid-19 misinformation, any fresh report on the coronavirus’s origin rapidly triggers a deterioration and a return of deceptive claims about Covid-19, masks, and vaccines that have echoed since the epidemic began.

Covid-19 Origin and Conspiracy Theories

It occurred again this week following the US Department of Energy said that a classified report determined, that the coronavirus escaped from a laboratory. Within a few hours, online mentions of conspiracy theories involving the Covid-19 virus started to rise, with many saying the classified report was waterproof and they were true all along.

The document has not been made public, and officials in the US stressed that a variety of US agencies are not agreed on the origin of the virus.

FBI Director Christopher Wray told a US TV that the FBI has assessed that the virus origin is most likely a potential laboratory incident in Wuhan. However, there is no consensus over the matter in the US.

Several scientists believe that the coronavirus jumped from animals to humans, perhaps at Wuhan’s Huanan market, a situation supported by many reports and studies. The WHO also said that while an animal origin remains most likely, the possibility of a laboratory leak must also be probed.

Overall remarks of COVID-19 started to increase following The Wall Street Journal has published a news story regarding the Energy Department report. Since then, references of numerous COVID-related conspiracy theories have climbed, Zignal Labs said. Several conspiracy theories deny each other and the results in the Energy Department report.

US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene twitted over the matter and termed Covid-19 a man-made bioweapon from China. On the other hand, a YouTuber said that the epidemic began as a leak from Hunter Biden’s laptop”. The social media activist was referencing a dispute surrounding a computer left by President Biden’s s son at a repair shop.
