New Routes Identified for Transport Service in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Thirteen new public transport routes have been identified in Islamabad and these routes will be made operational from June 2024, onwards as per the requirements of the citizens, Pakistan’s Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar said.

Responding to a question he stated that thirteen feeder routes have been identified, and new stations are being established in the city. He claimed that the routes will be activated in phases starting in June 2024.

Initially, 30 buses will be operational, with an additional 130 buses to be acquired in subsequent phases. The service will be provided from B-17 to Chungi No. 26; Sector I-16 to Chungi No. 26; Taramri to Aabpara; Taramri to Khana Bridge; Piwadhai to IJP. He added that G-5, G-6, G-7, G-8, G-9, F-8, F-10, and F-11 can also take benefit from the new bus service.

Furthermore, a Mass-Transit System from Rawat to Pak-Secretariat via Murree Road is under consideration at the planning level for the Capital City, he added. Besides the Metro Bus Service from Saddar to Pak-Secretariat, the government has already initiated three public transport routes in Islamabad through the Orange Line, Blue Line, and Green Line bus services, operational since 2022.

The minister highlighted that thousands of people are benefiting from these transport services. He also noted that the Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) is striving to ensure safe and quality private sector-run transport within the parameters of the Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965.  —APP
