NHA Ensuring Compliance on Prices at Motorway Service Areas

ISLAMABAD: District administrations and NHA (National Highway Authority) are taking strict measures to have a proper check on the prices and quality of food items offered at various Motorway Service Areas (MSAs), and have imposed over Rs 11.2 million in fines for the non-compliance, since 2020.

While talking to APP, an official of the NHA said that the authority had enhanced the fine limits from Rs 10,000-100,000 to Rs 50,000-250,000 at rest and service areas to stop overpricing. He said that service providers were also ordered to display price lists duly notified by the concerned deputy commissioners at visible points in shops and eateries of filling stations and service/rest Areas.

He further said that PFA (Punjab Food Authority) regularly inspects the quality of edibles in all MSAs and imposes fines on the spot where the food is found to be unsatisfactory and sub-standard.

NHA Asks Provincial Govts to Ensure Updated Price List

Moreover, the provincial governments had been asked to ensure the issuance of updated price lists on a quarterly basis for proper reinforcement to protect the interests of the public. He said, “displaying the contact numbers of focal persons (NHA & other relevant Operators) for registering the complaints against overcharging, quality, and cleanliness of the site is also being implemented.”  APP
