Nigerian Military Recovers N2.6 billion Stolen Crude Oil in Two Weeks

NIGERIA: The Defense Headquarters in Abuja announced that military troops stationed in the South region have successfully recovered stolen crude oil and related products worth N2.6 billion.

According to the DHQ from February 16 to January 27, a total of 3,282,250 liters of stolen crude oil, 224,050 liters of illegally refined AGO (Automotive Gas Oil), and 5,925 liters of DPK (Dual Purpose Kerosene) were seized.

Furthermore, military operations led to the discovery and destruction of 131 dugout pits, 67 illegal refining sites, and 125 storage tanks. Additionally, 104 suspected oil thieves were apprehended during these operations.

The statement, issued by Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defense Media Operations, highlighted the significant efforts made by troops in combating oil theft in the area.

The country is coping with a significant problem of oil theft, causing substantial adverse impacts on economic growth, business opportunities, and oil companies’ profit margins.
