TAIPEI: At least nine people died on Thursday after a fire ripped through a hospital in Pingtung County, southern Taiwan, the fire agency said.
The fire incident in Pingtung County was reported at around 7:40 am and was extinguished at approximately 1 pm, according to an online post by the fire agency.
Firefighters faced significant challenges in combating the blaze, which quickly spread through parts of the hospital, complicating rescue operations.
According to the fire agency’s report, eight victims succumbed to their injuries shortly after being transported for medical treatment, while one person was found dead at the scene.
This tragic incident has raised concerns about safety protocols in healthcare facilities, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
