PARIS, France: Despite a significant influx of tourists for the Paris Olympic Games, French authorities have reported no surge in Covid-19 cases. Junior Health Minister Frédéric Valletoux assured on Thursday that while Covid-19 remains present at a low level, there has not been a noticeable increase in cases.
The government is maintaining a cautious approach but does not anticipate introducing new mask mandates at venues for now.
Valletoux acknowledged that although some Covid-19 cases have been detected among the 10,500 athletes participating in the Games, including notable instances in Australia’s female water polo team and several Belgian competitors, there is no immediate cause for alarm. The minister emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant but stated that there is no strong alert signal at this stage.
In response to the ongoing pandemic risks, some delegations have implemented stricter measures. For example, France’s rowing team has mandated mask-wearing at media events. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the Games progress, balancing public health concerns with the large-scale international event.
