‘No Interest’ in Absorbing Belarus: Russian President

MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Moscow has no interest in engrossing Belarus, Russia’s main ally that mostly depends on it for loans and cheap oil. Answering a question from a journalist, the Russian President said that it has no interest in absorbing anyone and termed it just rumors.

Putin lauded a relationship between “closest strategic partners and allies and … united by the same history and values.” The Russian President said that together they are resisting sanctions and they do so quite effectively and confidently.” Putin said that Russia and Belarus have agreed to enhance cooperation in all areas including defense as the two sides agreed to continue joint training and mutual arms delivery.

Vladimir Putin said that they will keep training Belarusian crews in order to fly airplanes. The President of Belarus said that they have tested those planes and this is not a threat for anyone. He praised his country’s ties with Moscow.

Lukashenko remarked that Russia cannot go anywhere without them and they cannot do anything without Moscow. He said that they are not able to protect their independence and sovereignty without Moscow.  Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Minsk today.
