ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani Embassy in the United Arab Emirates has rejected media reports claiming that the Emirati government has shared an official document with the embassy elaborating the reasons behind visa restrictions imposed on Pakistani nationals.

“The Pakistan Embassy in the UAE rejects the recent media reports referring to the sharing of a document by the UAE government citing reasons for imposing visa restrictions on Pakistani nationals. These claims are factually incorrect,” the statement from the Pakistan Embassy in UAE said on Tuesday.

“No such document has been shared by UAE authorities. Pakistan enjoys strong and cordial relations with the UAE, and both governments are committed to addressing any issues of mutual concern through official channels and constructive dialogue,” it said.

The statement further added that the Embassy remains fully committed to safeguarding the interests of Pakistani nationals in the UAE and will continue to work closely with UAE authorities to further strengthen the friendly ties between our two countries.

Earlier media reports claimed that the UAE cabinet proposed a ban to impose visa restrictions on Pakistani citizens. As per reports, the UAE authorities have conveyed to Pakistan’s ambassador that the decision to impose the visa restrictions was made after deliberations at the highest levels of the UAE government.

In June this year the UAE’s Consulate General, Bakheet Obaid Al-Roumi, also issued a video statement to refute the false propaganda.

Al-Roumi said that there is no visa ban for Pakistanis, and the visa section at the UAE consulate remains open. “Pakistanis are free to travel to the UAE for work visas, and there is no age limit for those seeking to enter the country,” he said.

It should be noted that the UAE hosts around 1.8 million Pakistanis, which is the second-largest Pakistani expat community in the world.

The data by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) confirms that the volume of remittances from the UAE to Pakistan from July to October in fiscal year 2024 was $ 1.5 billion.
