ISLAMABAD: Malala Yousufzai, who was first awarded Pakistan’s National Peace Prize as an eighth-grade girl for her online diary on the Taliban’s ban on education for girls in 2011 and was shot by a Taliban gunman a year later, is set to make a visit to Pakistan to attend an education moot for girls’ education.
A spokesperson for her Malala Fund charity confirmed to AFP that she will attend the summit in person on Sunday.
Pakistan will host the International Conference on “Girls’ Education in Muslim Communities from 11th to12th January 2025 in Islamabad.
Two-day event
A foreign office statement on Thursday said the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training will host the two-day event.
“The global summit aims to address the challenges and opportunities in advancing girls’ education across Muslim communities worldwide; foster dialogue; and find actionable solutions to address the challenges,” it said.

The statement said the conference will provide an ideal platform for high-level discussions and collaborations.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, will inaugurate the conference and will also deliver a keynote address at the opening session reaffirming the nation’s commitment to promoting girls’ education and gender equity.
Islamabad Declaration
The event will bring together over 150 international dignitaries, including ministers, ambassadors, scholars and academia from 44 Muslim and friendly countries, representatives from international organisations including UNESCO, UNICEF, and the World Bank. Speakers and panellists will share transformative success stories, showcasing innovative approaches to advancing education equity.
“The conference will conclude by a formal signing ceremony of the Islamabad Declaration, outlining the shared commitment of the Muslim community to empower girls through education, paving the way for inclusive and sustainable educational reforms, and a brighter future for generations to come,” said the statement.
