LONDON: Bollywood actress and dancer Nora Fatehi has issued a public apology following backlash over her controversial comments about feminism. Last year, Fatehi stirred controversy by criticizing feminism during a podcast conversation, which she now clarifies was misunderstood.

In a podcast episode with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, Fatehi had made headlines with her remarks on feminism. She expressed skepticism about the concept, stating, “This idea of ‘I-don’t-need-anybody’, ‘feminism’, I don’t believe in this nothing. In fact, I think feminism destroyed our society completely.”

She elaborated that she believed traditional gender roles should be maintained, with men as providers and women as nurturers.

Fatehi’s comments, which included views on the independence promoted by feminism and its perceived impact on gender dynamics, received widespread criticism. She suggested that feminism had caused issues for women seeking traditional male roles in relationships and criticized how it had influenced modern gender roles.

In her recent interview with an Indian media outlet, Fatehi addressed the controversy, clarifying her earlier statements. She expressed regret for any distress her remarks may have caused and emphasized that her statements were taken out of context. “I definitely apologize for making people upset and hurting them, but that was not the intention at all,” Fatehi said.

The 32-year-old actress elaborated that her comments were intended to highlight the value of traditional family structures and the role of nuclear families in raising children with strong values. “I don’t want what’s happening in the West to happen in this part of the world because there is nothing better than upholding traditions and values and morals,” she added.
