North Korea Tests High-thrust Solid-fuel Motor

SEOUL: North Korea has conducted a test of a high-thrust solid-fuel motor, state-run media reported on Friday. According to the official KCNA news agency the new test was conducted on Thursday at Sohae Satellite Launching Ground, North Korea. The news agency said that the test has proved the motor’s reliability, giving a guarantee to develop of another strategic weapon system.

North Korea’s missile tests

 North Korea had conducted an unprecedented number of missile tests in the current year. In March, the North Korea’s leader had visited the Sohae site to enhance the facility, which has been utilized to test several missiles and technologies.

A new report by the United States (US) based Center said satellite imagery shows the construction of a horizontal engine test stand and describing it as the first of its type at the station of Sohae.

The latest test comes as (IAEA) head Rafael Grossi is in South Korea for talks with the officials in Seoul. He vowed an all-out effort to prevent the nuclear program of North Korea. 

During his talks with Grossi, the South Korean President expressed concerns over Pyongyang’s race to increase its nuclear program, calling for the IAEA’s cooperation to deter North Korea from further provocations. US and South Korean officials said that North Korea has completed its preparations for a potential nuclear test.
