SEOUL: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspected images taken by the country’s new spy satellite of “main target regions”, state media reported on Saturday, including Seoul and cities that host US army bases.

North Korea launched the spy satellite on Tuesday, but officials and analysts in Seoul said its capabilities and abilities have not been independently confirmed.

Kim Jong Un examined the images, as well as pictures taken of some regions within North Korea, during a trip to the control centre of the National Aerospace Technology Administration in Pyongyang on Friday, officials news agency KCNA reported.

The pictures were taken as the satellite passed over the region on Friday morning, KCNA maintained, and included pictures of Seoul, and Kunsan, Mokpo, Osan, Pyeongtaek, where South Korean and American military bases are located.

On the other hand, the top diplomats of South Korea, Japan and the United States held a call on Friday to discuss North Korea’s latest launch of a spy satellite which they strongly denounced, the U.S. State Department stated.
