ISLAMABAD: The National Security Committee (NSC) of Pakistan has approved a multi-pronged comprehensive operation to eradicate terrorism from the country with the support of the government and the nation.

The decision was taken during the 41st meeting of the NSC, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House.

Federal ministers, services chiefs, high-ranking officers, and the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee were also present in the meeting.

The operation is aimed at tackling terrorism in all its forms and manifestations through combined efforts at diplomatic, security, economic, and social levels.

A high-level committee has been formed, which will present its recommendations for the implementation of the policy and to draw its parameters within two weeks.

During the meeting, it was noted that the recent wave of terrorism in the country was the result of the soft corner and absence of a well-thought-out policy against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which was declared a terrorist organization.

The Committee proclaimed that the government allowed terrorists to return without any hindrance, and dangerous terrorists of the TTP were released from jails in the name of confidence building.

It was also acknowledged that due to the return of dangerous terrorists and the support of different terrorist organizations from Afghanistan, peace and stability achieved through innumerable sacrifices and continuous efforts were affected.

NSC emphasizes importance of relief to masses

The NSC emphasized that relief to the people was of central importance, and the government was taking measures in this regard.

The Committee also appreciated the sacrifices and efforts of the security forces to ensure permanent peace for the nation.

The leadership strongly condemned the increasing hatred and division in society and attempts to spread foreign-sponsored poisonous propaganda on social media against the state institutions and their leadership to achieve hidden targets. It stated that these attempts were affecting national security.

The NSC reiterated its resolve to continue operations till the eradication of terrorism from Pakistan and expressed determination to maintain peace achieved through the supreme sacrifices and constant endeavours of the martyrs.

During the meeting, the successful operation of the leading intelligence agency, during which a highly wanted terrorist Gulzar Imam aka Shambay, was arrested, was also appreciated.

The comprehensive operation against terrorism in Pakistan is expected to pave the way for a more peaceful and stable future for the country, which has been grappling with terrorism for years.
