WELLINGTON: Mitchell Santner affirmed on Tuesday that New Zealand is poised to display formidable resilience in their upcoming three-match Twenty20 against Australia.
The two rivals are set to face each other in Wellington on Wednesday, followed by matches in Auckland on Friday and Sunday. Although, New Zealand emerged victorious in their previous encounter in the shortest format.
NZ to Challenge Australia
“We may be perceived as underdogs, but that’s a tag we’re accustomed to and one that doesn’t faze us much,” Santner conveyed to reporters. The Black Caps and Australia last clashed in a T20 series three years ago, with the hosts, New Zealand, emerging triumphant with a 3-2 victory. “There’s a special aura around these encounters,” Santner reflected. “We may not face Australia as frequently as we’d like, but the trans-Tasman showdown is always a highlight.”
Assessing the current Australian squad, Santner acknowledged their formidable strength, noting, “They boast a well-rounded, formidable team. However, we’re sticking to our game plan and are ready to execute it.”
“We understand the caliber of the Australian team and their explosive potential,” Santner acknowledged. “Our focus is on resilience and staying in the contest for as long as possible.”
“We aim to put forth a strong fight in this series, laying the groundwork for what lies ahead,” Santner emphasized. Following the T20 series, two Tests are scheduled between the two sides.
