OIC and SCO Declare Uzbek Constitution Referendum Free and Fair

ISLAMABAD: International observers, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and other organizations on Monday declared the Constitution Referendum,2023 in Uzbekistan as fair and free and considered it better for the future of the people of Uzbekistan.

After the announcement of the inconclusive results of Uzbekistan’s Constitutional Referendum 2023, representatives of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, OIC, Turkic States Organization and local political parties declared the voting free and fair in a Press conference held in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) on Monday.

Fair and Free Uzbek Constitution Referendum

Head of mission of SCO, Chjan Min, while commenting amid the media briefing, termed the constitutional referendum in Uzbekistan as free and fair and voting arrangments in accordance with international standards.

He added that the whole process of voting was welcome by SCO, and the organization appreciated the reforms in Uzbekistan.

He said that observers of his organisation visited about 90 polling stations and declared the quality of voting facilities as satisfactory.

He further added that he was in constant contact with the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan as, according to him, they were kept informed about the voting process.

The head of the mission of SCO expressed the hope that this democratic process will bring stability and prosperity to the people of Uzbekistan.

While expressing his views Deputy Secretary General of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Eurasia, Omer Kochaman said that his observers reviewed the referendum process for the last couple of days and described the voting process to be fair and free.

He further said that the Referendum had given the people of Uzbekistan a golden opportunity to be a part of the smooth democratic process.

He added observers of his organization visited 16 polling stations in the referendum process across the country and termed the facilities as excellent and satisfactory.

Omer Kochaman said that Uzbekistan is an important country of our organization, whose role in the organization is very significant and crucial.

Meanwhile, domestic and foreign Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and civil society organizations have appreciated and welcomed the referendum in Uzbekistan and said that would be decisive effort for the bright future of Uzbekistan.

On the occasion, the representatives of different political parties declared the polling process transparent during the referendum and said that it would strengthen the democratic process in Uzbekistan.
