JEDDAH: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the Israeli military operation in the Palestinian city of Jenin, located in the occupied West Bank. The operation resulted in the death of nine Palestinians, including eight in Jenin, with at least 50 Palestinians sustaining injuries, according to the health ministry.
In a statement, the Jeddah-based OIC characterized the Israeli military action as a “heinous crime” that perpetuates the ongoing state terrorism practiced by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people. The organization held Israel accountable for the repercussions of this violent act, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation and accountability.
OIC Urges UNSC to Fulfill Responsibility
The OIC urged the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its responsibility by enforcing relevant resolutions and putting an end to the continuous Israeli terrorism, while providing protection for the Palestinian people. The statement highlighted the OIC’s call for justice and an immediate halt to the violence inflicted upon the Palestinians.
Israeli military sources reported the involvement of over 1,000 troops in the Jenin operation. Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari stated that the operation primarily focused on the Jenin refugee camp and is part of a series of actions that Israel carries out and will continue to carry out.
The occupied West Bank has experienced heightened tensions in recent months due to repeated Israeli raids into Palestinian towns. According to the health ministry, nearly 190 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the beginning of the year, while at least 25 Israelis have lost their lives during the same period.
