UNITED NATIONS: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir at the United Nations (UN) met Friday to discuss collective efforts to promote an acceptable, just, and long-lasting solution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, a press release issued by the Pakistan Mission to the UN stated.
The informal meeting of the OIC contact group — comprising Azerbaijan, Niger, Turkiye, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia — was convened by Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN.
Briefing the group members on the latest situation and brutalities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Munir Akram said that the disputed region was the “densest occupation in history.”
Despite India’s massive repression, the Pakistani diplomat said that the residents of the occupied Jammu and Kashmir region were continuing their heroic struggle to exercise the right to self-determination, as prescribed by UNSC resolutions.
Pakistan appreciates OIC Contact Group for support
On its part, Munir Akram said Pakistan would continue to extend diplomatic, political, and moral support to the legitimate Kashmiri struggle for the right to self-determination and to end Indian occupation and oppression.
The Pakistani envoy thanked the members of the OIC Contact Group for their support for the Kashmir cause and participation in the meeting.
Earlier, ambassadors from the OIC Member States attended the virtual commemoration marking Kashmir Solidarity Day.
