JEDDAH: The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, will lead a delegation from the OIC General Secretariat to the Hague.

Their objective is to participate in presenting the OIC’s oral proceedings before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on February 26, 2024.

The ICJ is poised to deliver an advisory opinion, as per the request of the United Nations General Assembly, regarding the legal ramifications of the Israeli occupation and the continuous violation of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination. This encompasses Israel’s prolonged occupation of the Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, since 1967.

Previously, the OIC had submitted a written legal pleading to the ICJ on July 25, 2023, and provided comments on the pleadings submitted by states and international organizations on October 25, 2023. These submissions reiterated the illegitimacy of the Israeli occupation, condemning its policies of colonial settlement, forced displacement, racial discrimination, land confiscation, and demolition of Palestinian homes. These actions flagrantly violate international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

During the public hearings from February 19 to 26, 2024, 25 OIC Member States are scheduled to present their pleadings, amplifying the collective stance against the Israeli occupation and advocating for justice in the Palestinian territories.
