OIC Denounces Bombings Targeting Civilians in Iran

JEDDAH:  Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), has condemned the terrorist attack that targeted civilian people in Iran and claimed many casualties and injuries.

In a statement, the OIC Secretary-General expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the government of Iran, people and families of the victims.

The OIC General Secretariat wished a speedy recovery for injured people. Furthermore, it renewed its solidarity with Iran in this tragic event, the statement added.

OIC Denounces Bombings Targeting Civilians in Iran

On Wednesday two blasts killed over 100 people and wounded many at a ceremony in Iran to commemorate top General Qassem Soleimani who was assassinated by a US strike in 2020 in Iraq.

Iranian official media reported a first and then a second explosion during a crowded anniversary event at the cemetery where Soleimani was buried in the city of Kerman.

Earlier, Pakistan also strongly condemned the dastardly terrorist attack that occurred earlier on Wednesday in the Martyrs Cemetery of the provincial capital of Kerman, Iran, resulting in large number of deaths and injuries.

In a statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson said, “Pakistan stands in complete solidarity with the Government and brotherly people of Iran in this hour of tragedy and grief”.

It added that Pakistan extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured people.
