OIC Emphasizes Urgent, Coordinated Actions to Redress Problems of Member Countries

JEDDAH: Dr. Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, OIC Assistant Secretary General for Economic Affairs, urged the member states on Wednesday to take urgent and coordinated actions to tackle the problems faced by the people in in the bloc.

Addressing the Sixth Annual Coordination Meeting of heads of the OIC Institutions (ACMOI) in Jeddah, he said that more than 89 million people in the member states had no food and nineteen million people were refugees which required urgent support.

Dr. Sengendo said that Organization of Islamic Cooperation block accounted for 72.1 percent of the refugees in the world.  He said that the ACMOI meeting was an important tool to start with major collective actions to redress the sufferings of the Muslims.

Many OIC member countries face horrible conflicts

He said that many member states of OIC were facing horrible conflicts and insecurity situations where nearly three hundred people were living below the poverty line.

Many countries were still far away from the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as the recent floods and natural disasters indicated. He emphasized that living and working in such conditions demanded a spirit of genuine cooperation, efficient implementation of resolutions from all member states and timely execution of all OIC planned activities.
