JEDDAH: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha, in a telephone call with High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, discussed the uninterrupted Israeli aggression on Gaza, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.

The OIC chief called on the European Union, as an active actor on the international scene and a defender of international law and human values, to engage in efforts to halt Israeli military aggression against Palestinians, open humanitarian corridors to ensure the safe delivery of humanitarian help to Gaza, protect the defenseless Palestinians and to force Israel to respect its obligations under the global law and global humanitarian law.

Hissein Brahim Taha expressed hope that the European Union would contribute to efforts to revive the peace path and push towards the two-state solution in a way that allows the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as per international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, the SPA reported.

Borrell stressed the immediate need for a ceasefire to stop the war and allow unhindered, quick and safe humanitarian access to all who need it through all ways, including humanitarian corridors. He said that the European Union would work closely with partners in the region to protect civilian population, provide help and facilitate access to water, food, fuel and medical care for Gaza’s population, stressing, at the same time, the significance of working towards reaching a comprehensive political settlement to the Palestinian issue, in a way that ensures stability and security in the region and the world.
