JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia: The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has once again emphasized the urgency for the international community to uphold the resolution of the United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP), which advocates the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people.

The UNCIP had unanimously passed this resolution on January 5, 1949, and it was subsequently endorsed by the United Nations Security Council through its successive resolutions.

In a recent statement, the General Secretariat reaffirmed the OIC’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people’s inherent right to self-determination. The OIC also expressed its commitment to achieving a final settlement for the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with the pertinent resolutions of the UN Security Council. The statement emphasized the OIC’s call on the international community to ensure the effective implementation of these resolutions.

The OIC’s stance underscores its persistent efforts to address the longstanding issue of Kashmir and advocate for the rights of the Kashmiri people. The organization reiterates the significance of a free and impartial plebiscite under the auspices of the United Nations to determine the political future of the region. This call aligns with the principles of justice, fairness, and international law, urging the global community to actively engage in the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir conflict.

As the OIC continues to emphasize the importance of implementing UN resolutions, it underscores the need for concerted international efforts to bring about a just and lasting solution to the Kashmir issue. The statement serves as a reminder of the international community’s responsibility to address the grievances of the Kashmiri people and work towards a peaceful resolution in accordance with the established norms of the United Nations.
