OIC Secretary-General Denounces Attack on a Shrine in Iran’s Shiraz

JEDDAH:  The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, has strongly denounced a terrorist attack at a shrine in Shiraz city in Iran that killed one and injured 10, the OIC statement said on Monday.

“The Secretary-General conveyed his sincere condolences to the Iranian Government and the victims’ families. He wished the wounded a speedy recovery,” said the statement.

According to the statement, Secretary-General rejected the heinous crime adding the OIC has a principled stance against all forms of terrorism.

A terrorist attack at Shah Cheragh Holy Shrine in Shiraz City on Sunday night left one killed and injured 10 people.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, soon after the attack, ordered Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi and Governor General of Fars Province Mohammad Hadi Imanieh to arrest and punish the perpetrators of the terrorist attack.

The Iranian officials have claimed to have arrested four suspects linked to the recent attack. The terrorist group Daesh or ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The shrine, located in the province of Fars, was hit by a similar attack on October 26, 2022.
